Quality and evidence control brief

Optical Module Compatibility Validation Report

Turn raw host observations into a bounded, reviewable report that distinguishes recognition, link operation, telemetry and production applicability.

A compatibility report is the evidence output of a test plan, not a marketing badge. It should expose the exact setup, raw observations, duration, counters, deviations and decision logic.

Recognition, link-up, DOM, alarms, FEC and traffic stability are separate result layers. The report should show which layers passed and which remain conditional or untested.

MingApex coordinates China-based sourcing, OEM execution and independent quality-control evidence. It is not represented as the product manufacturer or an accredited laboratory; the commercial record names the supplier, method and applicable evidence boundary.

01 / Release record

Define the exact evidence record before inspection starts

A usable Compatibility report record identifies the subject, baseline, method, limit, sample plan, traceability chain and release owner.

Required control What must be recorded Why it matters
Product and order identity Host model/card/port, software/firmware, peer, optic part number/serial and coding profile. Evidence cannot be transferred safely when the SKU, revision, order line or lot is ambiguous.
Approved reference Buyer-approved test plan, optical specification, host expectation and prior approved evidence if applicable. The comparison baseline must be frozen before inspection results are known.
Method and equipment Defined host commands, port/FEC configuration, DOM capture, traffic/error test, duration and environmental conditions. A result without method, equipment or conditions cannot be reproduced or audited.
Acceptance limits Recognition, warnings, operational mode, FEC/counters, DOM/alarms, traffic stability and stated open issues. Pass/fail criteria must come from the approved requirement, not from the observed result.
Sampling plan Each uniquely serialized optic/cable and every host/port/software tuple included in the report. Sample quantity and selection determine what the decision can legitimately cover.
Traceability record Setup diagram/photos, CLI/raw output, DOM captures, traffic logs, counters, dates, operator and sample serials. Raw files, photos, readings and serials must resolve to the same tested units.
Decision and owner Pass/conditional/fail/untested by host tuple and result layer, with production-lot applicability stated. Open deviations need an owner, closure rule and release status.
02 / Control points

Checks required for an auditable decision

Each check below produces evidence or a named deviation; a tick-box without the underlying record is not sufficient.

01

Scope and setup header

Put host, software, port, peer, fibre, FEC and sample identity at the top of the report.

02

Recognition evidence

Capture inventory/diagnostic output and any unsupported/third-party warning.

03

Operational state

Record speed, breakout/lane map, link state, FEC, counters and alarms.

04

DOM and optical context

Capture lane telemetry and compare with measured/specification context.

05

Traffic, duration and decision

State load, duration, error/flap observations, deviations and exact approval boundary.

03 / Product anchors

Live product examples for defining the inspection family

These live SKUs help define the physical product family and inspection variables. They do not inherit evidence from another sample or lot.

Product pages define commercial and physical starting points. Inspection evidence applies only to the recorded sample, lot and order line.

04 / Release workflow

From specification lock to documented release

The report is assembled from frozen setup, raw records and result-layer decisions, then linked to the production evidence plan.

  1. 1

Freeze the specification and evidence scope

Identify the exact product, order line, approved reference and buyer requirement for Compatibility report.

  2. 2

    Define method and acceptance limits

Record the instrument or inspection method, sample plan, units, tolerances and pass/fail rules before results are known.

  3. 3

    Capture traceable observations

Tie raw readings, photos, files and exceptions to serial numbers, lot identity, date and responsible operator.

  4. 4

    Issue a controlled decision

Record pass, conditional pass, hold, fail or retest together with deviations, owner and closure condition.

  5. 5

Bridge the decision to shipment and repeat orders

Release only the recorded quantity and preserve approved identities, revisions and change-control triggers for the next order.

05 / Decision states

How pass, conditional release, hold and retest are handled

The same observation can lead to different decisions depending on the approved scope, open deviations and shipment risk.

Pre-order definition

Approve the host tuple, physical path, sample serials, test layers, duration, pass/fail criteria and report attachments before testing.

Conditional release

A warning or untested layer can remain conditional only when named, risk-assessed and owned; the report must not collapse it into an overall “compatible” label.

Hold or retest

Host hardware/software, port mode, peer, fibre path, FEC, coding profile or sample/BOM change reopens affected layers.

Repeat-order bridge

The production lot inherits only the attributes proven unchanged and rechecked; the named-host sample report remains a sample-bound reference.

06 / Buyer Evidence Center

Downloadable evidence references

Use these redacted sample records to specify required fields. They are process references, not proof for an unrelated product or order.

07 / Risk control

Failure modes that invalidate a release decision

Brand-family generalization

A named-host result is expanded to every device in the family.

Recognition presented as full validation

Link, FEC, DOM or traffic layers remain unproven.

Raw evidence omitted

The conclusion cannot be audited against observations.

Production applicability unstated

A sample report is silently reused for a changed lot.

08 / Buyer questions

Quality and evidence questions

What does this record prove?

The report covers only the named host hardware, software, port, peer, fibre path, FEC, serialized sample and test window. It is not a statement of compatibility with every device in a brand family.

What must the buyer provide?

Provide exact host/software/port/FEC, peer/fibre path, optic specification, sample identity, test duration and required report format.

Can an open deviation be accepted?

A warning or untested layer can remain conditional only when named, risk-assessed and owned; the report must not collapse it into an overall “compatible” label.

Does the result automatically cover a repeat order?

The production lot inherits only the attributes proven unchanged and rechecked; the named-host sample report remains a sample-bound reference.

Controlled next step

Define the named-host report scope

Send the exact host tuple, sample identity, physical link and required result layers for a bounded compatibility report.
